IMPORTANT: Information about the Winter 2021 term

We previously shared with you our plans for the Fall term. After consulting with the government and public health authorities and considering our guiding principles, the University is offering a full selection of academic programming using primarily online/remote learning, with select in-person instruction. This has been planned carefully with appropriate safety measures in place. Courses with a mandatory in-person component are identified when you enrol and can be found at: https://registrar.yorku.ca/enrol/in-person-courses

We are now finalizing decisions about Winter 2021 term courses. We are all looking forward to being on our campuses as soon as it is safe to do so but whether your learning will be in-person or online, our instructors are finding innovative ways to provide the high-quality learning experience for which York is known.

Flexibility for our students is a top priority along with ensuring the health and safety of the entire community. We will, therefore, proceed with similar planning as in Fall, but with the goal of gradually increasing optional in-person learning opportunities in as many courses as possible, as public health conditions permit. At the same time, we are committed to maintaining enhanced online/remote access for those students who continue to require this mode of learning.

As in the Fall term, there will be select Winter courses where in-person attendance is a requirement. These courses will be clearly labelled for students. The general mode of delivery, however, will allow all students to progress through their programs while accommodating as much as possible both students who need to access their courses online/remotely and students who are eager and able to attend in-person activities.

At all times, York is guided by public health and government directives and concern for the health and well-being of our students, staff, faculty and instructors.

We will communicate further about Winter 2021 term delivery formats in September.

Sincerely,
Lucy Fromowitz
