Here’s your timely & targeted compilation of key events, noteworthy news and important dates for the remainder of the week.

Here are some other important items to keep in mind this week.

1 Mature & Transfer Student Orientation Workshop: Getting Familiar with Campus Resources & Deadlines. This session will introduce new mature students to York’s student resources and will highlight key dates and important deadlines. Meet staff from the Atkinson Centre for Mature & Part-time Students (ACMAPS) and hear personal stories from current mature students, peer mentors and members of the York University Mature Student Organization (YUMSO). Tuesday, July 21, 2 to 3 p.m.

Family Yoga. Join ACMAPS and Athletics & Recreation for a half hour family yoga session for the student-parents on campus! Everyone is invited to explore yoga poses and shapes in a fun environment. You’ll get to play with the basics of the physical yoga practice and learn tips on how to integrate poses, fun and calm into your daily family life. Wednesday, July 22, noon to 12:30 p.m.

ACMAPS Event Schedule.  Are you a mature student at York U? Are you interested in meditation or attending a casual, drop-in based café hour to meet other mature students or a mature student peer mentor? Check the schedule at the link above and attend any session you wish, via Zoom.

2 Health Education Trainings & Workshops Survey. Health Ed offers an online certification program in suicide awareness through Living Work and they want to hear what other types of workshops you want to see in the Fall term. Whether you are interested in improving your health and well-being, personal development or supporting others, they want to hear from you! Would you attend a mental health workshop that focused on a customized self-care plan or one focused on self-compassion for perfectionist tendencies? Let them know by filling out the survey.
3 Indigenous Circle: Movie Night. Calumet and Stong Colleges invite you to join their next Indigenous Circle Movie Night event. An Indigenous-themed movie will be screened to help us understand and appreciate Indigenous Peoples, their history and culture. De-stress from your regular activities to gain and share knowledge about Indigenous communities and build awareness about Indigenous peoples, cultures and communities. Monday, July 27, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
4 Career Centre Webinar: Personality & Career Choice. Are you wondering how your personality type may influence your career choices? This webinar will provide you with an introduction to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), one of the most widely used assessment tools and you will discover how learning about your personality type can help guide you with your career decision making. Wednesday, July 22, 2 to 3 p.m. Register at Experience York.
5 Learning Skills Services Workshop: Exam Prep. Join this session and learn tips on how to effectively prepare for all types of exams, including multiple choice, short answer, calculations, essay-style and more. If you feel like you could use some help in preparing for exams, whether it’s a midterm or a final, then this workshop is for you. Wednesday, July 22, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Peer Academic Coaching. If you are looking for individual support to help you achieve your academic goals, meet with one of the LSS’ Peers for a 30-minute remote one-to-one session to discuss strategies to support your academic success, from how to develop and stick to a realistic time management plan to how to tackle your readings, assignments and exams. Sessions are by appointment only, Tuesdays 2 to 4 p.m. and Thursdays 1 to 3 p.m.

6 York International Workshop: Let’s Talk Immigration: Info Session for Graduating Students. Are you a graduating international student? Join YI for this interactive workshop to learn about applying to graduate, working after graduation, applying for another program of study and much more. Come find out everything you'll need to do to make your transition successful. Friday, July 24, 8 to 9:30 a.m.
7 Speaker: Building Startups in Canada: Tales From the Trenches. LaunchYU has partnered with York's Division of Advancement to bring you the Entrepreneurial Alumni Speaker Series at Home, which features top York alumni entrepreneurs. In the premiere of this at-home series, Richard Reiner will tell stories from the lives of his five successful (and a few unsuccessful) tech startups, highlighting some of the opportunities and challenges that come with creating and growing a new tech company in Canada. Thursday, July 23, noon.
8 Summer Online Activities Calendar. Check out this calendar and take part in some online activities during these days of isolation. Connect with others and participate in activities for your academic, career, entertainment and fitness needs.
9 Fall/Winter 2020-2021 course enrolment. Courses this fall will be, for the most part delivered online and remotely. Use the Enrolment & Registration Guide to confirm your enrolment window opens and plan your course schedule. 10 When thinking about full year courses for next year, don’t forget to check out the award-winning C4: The Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom. This unique learning opportunity brings together students at the third-, fourth-, and fifth-year levels to work in interdisciplinary teams on real-world challenges with social impact. York has no affiliation with any of these companies, who are illegally passing themselves off as connected to or endorsed by York. Read the complete statement.

Mental Health & Wellness. Don’t forget that taking care of your physical and mental wellbeing contributes to your academic success. Student Counselling & Development is available remotely for emergency and short-term individual counselling, group counselling and workshops; a variety of online and remote services and tools are accessible from the Mental Health & Wellness at York website; and you can reach The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education at 416-736-5211.
